Employees take first place at AEC Hackathon 2.5

Employees from Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, brought their ideas and first place problem solving skills to this year’s AEC Hackathon 2.5 in Seattle. Don Josephson and Jack Johnson represented the Division by presenting three industry problems for the challenge. The problem: Navisworks has inferior reporting functionality and the inability to display large amounts of data in a meaningful way.

Seattle office raises to new heights with the completion of Cornish Commons

The Seattle office of Howard S. Pearl West project team celebrates topping out

Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company celebrated topping out the Pearl West project with a mid-day celebration. Though the project’s final pour will occur on August 18th, the event allowed for all of the team members to come together to celebrate this noteworthy milestone. Dozens of employees dined on a casual Hawaiian lunch while listening to superintendent, Wade Huber, thank the team’s efforts before reciting a number of noteworthy facts on the project; to date, over 72,000 man hours have been recorded on the project and by its conclusion, over 10,600 cubic yards of concrete will have been poured …

Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, announced today that Portland-based executive Troy Dickson will take on an expanded leadership role as senior vice president and Oregon manager. Tails wagged on June 26th when the Portland office of Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, participated in their second annual Take Your Dog To Work Day. Dedicated dog owners brought in their furry friends for the day, ranging from Chihuahua puppies to French Bulldog mixes. Seattle office showcases full-immersion virtual reality for AEC delivery at inaugural Rapid Integration Technology Expo

Wright’s Seattle office successfully launched its inaugural Rapid Integration Technology Expo (RITE) with 70+ clients, partners, and peers on May 6th, 2015.  Held at the Northwest Division’s Seattle office, the event titled, Zombies Invading AEC Delivery, addressed the importance of informed decision making and the speed of delivery.  The event discussed future-state technologies including full-immersion virtual reality initially introduced by the video gaming industry, now made practical for AEC applications. On May 14th and 15th, members of the Portland office volunteered at the 23rd annual Women in Trades (WIT) Career Fair, an event hosted in Portland, Oregon showcasing and promoting careers in the trades to young women. The WIT Fair spanned over three days with each day dedicated to a separate age group: middle school, high school, and women respectively. Throughout this year’s successful event, approximately 1,400 girls from the Oregon and Southwest Washington areas were exposed to the trade industry through training opportunities, were able to meet employers and current employees, and explored a potential career in the trades. …

Portland Community College project report

Starting in 2010, Howard S. Wright partnered with Portland Community College (PCC) as the CM/GC on the expansion and renovation of their Sylvania Campus funded by the 2008 voter-approved capital construction bond. To date, over 20 energy efficient projects have been completed as part of PCC’s Bond Program with the goal of achieving E6 (energy-efficiency and reduced water usage) Net Zero status. However, a Cost Analysis Study worked on by the project team, Glumac, and GBD Architects would show the outdated 1960’s buildings and initial systems were not suitable for obtaining ‘Net-Zero’ status at a budget the bond could accommodate. …
