RioGlass Solar Manufacturing Plant
Howard S. Wright constructed Phase 1 of RioGlass Solar’s new North American manufacturing facility and U.S. headquarters in a suburb of Phoenix. Spain-based RioGlass Solar Holdings is the fifth company to setup operations in Greater Phoenix under the State’s Renewable Energy Tax Incentive Program.
This $10 million design-build project consists of a 160,000 sf building located on 10 acres that will produce tempered glass reflectors used in solar thermal power plants. The building structure features a tilt wall with steel roof structure.
This fast-track construction project enabled the facility to start producing mirrors nine months after the start of design. The first batch of mirrors produced will be used for parabolic concentrators at Abengoa Solar’s 280-MW Solana Generating Station. Electricity generated by the plant could generate enough power for 70,000 homes.
A second phase will consist of a similar-sized operations building located on an adjacent 10-acre parcel.
